24h Urine Protein

24h Urine Protein24h urine protein is one of the tests to detect kidney disease. It measures all the protein that passed into the urine in a 24 hour period. Under normal circumstance, there is less than 80 milligrams of protein per day in the urine, because the glomerular filtration membrane has the function of preserving the protein in the blood. The amount of protein in urine usually shows how serious the kidney damage is.

A 24h urine protein test is given when you have symptoms of kidney disease, high blood pressure, uncontrolled diabetes, lupus or urinary tract infections. Protein in urine may indicate that there is something wrong with your kidneys. But some other factors may influence the test results, such as extreme stress, infection, excess exercise and so on. If more than 150 mg protein is found in urine, it is considered to have kidney disease.

In the early stage of kidney disease, there are no obvious symptoms. Regular 24h urine protein test is necessary for us to have a better knowledge of our kidney condition.
