Learn More About The Symptoms Of Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney DiseasePolycystic Kidney Disease(PKD) is an inherited kidney disease called autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease(ADPKD) in which many cysts develop in the kidneys. The cysts are benign and develop from some of the kidney tubules. In the early stage of polycystic kidney disease, some people with ADPKD never develop any symptoms or problems. However, with the progression of PKD, some of the symptoms and signs that may develop include one or more of the following:

1. Blood in urine

Most patients will have microscopic hematuria and sometimes the blood in urine can be gross hematuria. The hematuria is due to a ruptured blood vessel of the cysts wall. When there is too much bleeding, the blood clot can cause angina through the ureter. There is often to be seen leucocyturia and proteinuria in hematuria. The proteinuria usually is less than 1.0g/d. However, when the kidney is inflamed, the hematuria becomes worse and patients will have backache associated with fever.

2. High blood pressure

High blood pressure is often to be seen in polycystic kidney disease. High blood pressure is highly related to the increased secretion of renin, which has close relation with enlarged cysts and high blood pressure. In other words, it means that when patients experience high blood pressure in polycystic kidney disease, their cysts will develop in a quick speed.

3. Renal area pain

The pain usually occurs in your back and the pain is dull pain, sharp pain and sometimes is abdominal pain. When you do physical activity, have a long time work or sit for a long time, the pain will become severe while you lie in bed, the pain will be relieved. Renal bleeding, the mobility of kidney stones or infection can also be the cause of sharp pain.

4. Kidney dysfunction

Rare cases suffer from kidney dysfunction in adolescence and before the age of 40, few patients have decreased kidney function. Half of polycystic kidney disease patients still have kidney function in their 70 years old. However, patients with high blood pressure will develop kidney failure in a short time.

5. Kidney stone

These occur in about 1 in 5 people with ADPKD. Symptoms of a kidney stone can develop from no symptoms at all to severe pain if a stone becomes blocked in a ureter.

What is more, PKD patients also have recurring kidney infection and renal enlargement, etc. With these symptoms, PKD patients should take effective treatment to shrink kidney cysts so as to slow down the progression of reduced kidney function.
